Local figure skating sensation Eric Radford says he is focused and ready for the 2018 Olympic Games.
In an exclusive interview with CKDR News, Radford talked about making the Canadian team, his expectations, his career, growing up in Balmertown and Kenora and his future after the Olympics.
Radford says a wide range of emotions hit when he found out that he and pairs partner Meagan Duhamel would be heading to South Korea.
He stresses he was proud, happy, a little bit relieved and excited.
Radford says in 2014, they were just happy to make the team, and got caught up in the pageantry of the Games.
He stresses this time is different and all of their efforts have been centred on making the podium and bringing home gold, noting there is a greater responsibility this year.
Radford and Duhamel finished 7th in the Individual competition in 2014, but won Silver in the team competition.
Radford is also predicting big things from the Canadian Figure Skating team at the Olympics.
He says everyone is going to South Korea with one goal in mind, and that’s bringing home gold.
Radford believes there are medal contenders in each event, something he says hasn’t happened before.
He adds in the team event, they are as ready as they have ever been.
Radford also took time to praise the Canadian flag bearer duo of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir.
Radford says he’s proud and excited that the two will march Canada into the Olympic Stadium on February 9th.
He says Virtue and Moir are so recognizable and have done so much for Canadian Figure Skating.
Radford says after the South Korea Games, he and Duhamel will likely be retiring from competitive skating.
