The Dryden GM Ice Dogs continue to get ready for the Dudley Hewitt Cup.
President Mike Sveinson addressed Rotary members Wednesday to stress organizers are planning to make it a true community event that celebrates everything Dryden has to offer.
Sveinson started his speech by talking about the importance of being accountable to the community.
He stressed that both the Ice Dogs and Rotary are focused on improving Dryden, with the work of a strong volunteer core.
Rotary has already jumped on board with managing the beer gardens at the Chris Pronger Arena during the May tournament and the kick-off party on April 28th.
Sveinson also updated members by stating preparations are going well.
He says they have a great core group of volunteers on board and they are on target financially.
However, Sveinson stresses a lot of work remains as they need more volunteers and financial support.
He says they want to make the Central Canadian Junior Hockey Championship the best one yet, and promises he won’t rest until they accomplish that goal.
Sveinson adds it’s a major undertaking with great risks, but stressed he’s confident there will be great rewards.
He also made a plea for “more butts in the seats”.
Sveinson says they have seen a great response from the community, but stresses more people at the Arena leads to better results on and off the ice.
