The provincial government’s decision to restrict the use of a pesticide is giving some farmers the chill.
The Federation of Agriculture says the new laws for neonicotinoids are a concern, especially the one where crop advisors are required to inspect fields.
Minister of Natural Resources Bill Mauro understands a lack of inspectors in the province is an issue and he will ensure the Minister of Environment and Minister of Agriculture are aware of the shortage.
He notes the new rules are being phased in and stresses it’s a work in progress.
Mauro says the goal is to achieve the desired results and keep both sides happy.
The pesticide’s use is being restricted because of the harm it can cause to bees.
