Kenora Liberal candidate Bob Nault is promising a road to Shoal Lake 40.
The party is pledging $10-million towards to the project if elected.
Nault says he wanted to road built during his time as Indian Affairs Minister, but notes they didn’t receive any commitments from the City of Winnipeg and Manitoba.
The total cost is believed to be $30-million, with the other funds coming from Winnipeg and the Manitoba government.
Nault says it’s about time the First Nation has an all-weather road to further their economy.
He notes it will also lead to the completion of the twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway to the Ontario-Manitoba boundary.
The road is currently in the design phase with funding from Manitoba, Winnipeg, and the federal Conservatives.
