Fatal Crash

A Manitoban and an American are dead following a serious multi-vehicle collision on Highway 17 near Vermilion Bay Saturday morning.
OPP say an eastbound mini-van struck two westbound vehicles – first it hit a vehicle towing a boat and then hit a pickup truck head-on.
The two drivers of the head-on crash, 60-year-old Ralph Redmond of Winnipeg and 64-year-old Larry Littell of Indiana, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
A 10-year-old girl from the mini-van was airlifted to hospital in Duluth with critical injuries while a passenger from the pickup truck was flown to Thunder Bay for treatment.
Two others were treated and released from Dryden Hospital.
OPP are still investigating the crash, which occurred 6 kilometres west of Vermilion Bay near Hanslips Road and shut down Highway 17 for six hours.
Police acknowledge the help of regional fire and ambulance services along with the public and off duty medical personnel who stopped to provide first aid.
