One worker is dead and two others injured after an explosion at Terrace Bay Pulp.
Emergency crews were called to the 63-year-old plant late Monday afternoon after a large “blow tank” exploded, sending metal and debris rocketing upwards.
Terrace Bay fire Chief Moe Stark says about 25 firefighters from Terrace Bay and Schreiber encountered mostly black smoke and didn’t have to battle any flames.
The plant could be shut down for at least a few days until police, the Ontario Fire Marshal and Ministry of Labour officials investigate.
Police aren’t releasing the name of the worker who died until next of kin have been notified.
