Federal Funding for Skilled Trades Program

A new initiative is underway for 30-remote First Nations in the Sioux
Lookout area to improve access and opportunity in the skilled trades field.
Spokesperson Bob Bruyere says the goal of the Federally funded project
is to generate a new wave of home grown skilled workers, while improving the
social and economic conditions of aboriginals.
Aboriginals will receive training in order to take part in the
construction of the Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre and the new Hostel.
Bruyere notes the Provincial Government has failed to back the program
and has yet to address the trades shortage in the far North.
