Feds Improving Fire Safety On First Nations Communities

The federal government says it’s tailoring its approach to improve both fire safety and emergency management in Indigenous communities.

The Trudeau Liberals say they are accepting all of the recommendations put forward by a Commons Committee.

It looked at both the emergency response to wildfires in remote parts of the country and fire safety in First Nation communities.

Changing the way the feds fund fire departments was one of the recommendations.

The government says it’s working with First Nations partners on potential options.

The study was prompted by the rash of forest fires last year and concerns from MP’s about the discrepancies in the delivery of services between provinces.
