The Committee looking at the future of Wabigoon, Pinewood and Riverview
Schools has a difficult decision to make.
At Wednesday’s public meeting in Wabigoon, everyone in attendance made
a strong statement that they don’t want their community school to close.
Parents stressed the school is a vital part of the community and needs to be
renovated instead of closed or downsized.
They also called for changes to the school boundary or constructing a larger
facility in order to attract more kids.
Wednesday was the final planned public meeting and the general
consensus is that no one want’s to see the amalgamation of all 3 into a
so-called “Super-school”.
The Committee will sit down on June 26th to discuss the next step.
The Chair of the School Board appointed Committee says they heard a lot
of passion during the 4-public meetings.
Barb Gauthier says they need to take time to review all of the public’s
comments and suggestions.
The group has been asked to hold additional public meetings and to
simply renovate Riverview, Pinewood and Wabigoon Schools.
They must also make a decision on the vacant Oxdrift School.
