With the holidays around the corner, the Kenora District Fire Mutual Aid Association wants to remind the public to stay safe.
Information Officer Reagan Breeze says many fire deaths are caused by people attempting to cook or smoke while under the influence of alcohol. In these cases, sometimes people can get so distracted, that they forget about something in the oven, or that a candle is burning. This can lead to a fire starting, which could eventually destroy a home.
Breeze adds to keep lit candles and heat sources well away from the Christmas tree, and to make sure your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector are working.
