Aboriginal leaders are quickly looking at the Prime Minister-elect and his government to take action on the commitments made to First Nations during the campaign.
Among Liberal promises were increasing funding for education and infrastructure and an inquiry into missing and murdered Aboriginal women.
Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says he expects the Liberals to prioritize the commitments, starting with the lifting of a funding cap on native education.
The 2015 election sparked considerable interest among the First Nations population, with at least two area communities running out of ballots.
