Forest Rights in Pikangikum

The Pikangikum First Nation, North of Red Lake, is another step
closer in its bid to take over forestry activity in its traditional land
use area.
The Province has approved a land use strategy for the Whitefeather
Forest.
Advisor Karen Aquino says its been 10-years of hard work to get to
this stage.
Aquino notes it will still be a few years before the community gains
a sustainable forest licence and is able to begin forest activity in
Whitefeather.
A special signing ceremony was held this week between members of
Pikangikum and Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Ramsay.
