Many of us still remember the horrible incident involving Buffalo Sabres goalie Clint Malarchuk in 1989.
That’s when his throat was sliced by a skate blade during an NHL game.
In an exclusive interview with Acadia News, Malarchuk told us what followed was a long bought with post traumatic stress disorder, addiction and a suicide attempt.
Malarchuk says he woke up one day with a bullet in his head, noting it’s still stuck in his skull.
He stresses he’s lucky to be alive and believes his survival was a sign that there’s still purpose in his life.
That’s why Malarchuk decided to release a book about his struggles, in an attempt to help others who are dealing with depression.
He says he suffered in silence, noting he was treated as a “Rock Star” for his quick return following the gruesome injury.
Malarchuk says he didn’t know how to deal with the attention.
You can hear Malarchuk’s story this Sunday morning on Northwest Monitor, starting just after the 9am News on CKDR.
