Former Ottawa U Hockey Players Acquitted

Two former Ottawa Gee Gee University hockey players have been found not guilty by a judge in Thunder Bay.

David Foucher and Guillaume Donovan were charged with one count each of sexual assault after a woman alleged she was assaulted by the two in February of 2014, when the Gee Gee’s were in Thunder Bay to play the Lakehead University Thunderwolves.

Judge Brochu handed down her decision Monday.

When giving her decision Brochu recapped graphic testimony from the trial.

She noted she heard several versions of what happened that night in an Arthur Street hotel and that the case revolves around whether there was consent or not.

Brochu told the court that her decision was based on the credibility of the alleged victim’s testimony.

Defence lawyers for the two say justice has been served, noting its been a difficult four years for their clients.

The team was suspended from play for two years as a result of the accusations and former players have launched a class action lawsuit against the Ottawa school.

The verdict may mean the two cleared players may be able to join that suit.
