Thunder Bay police are looking into an incident where an aboriginal
teenager touring the police building was allegedly questioned by a
street-gang officer about the shirt he was wearing.
It’s alleged 17-year-old Abraham Miles was told by an officer to remove his
T-shirt, was escorted into a separate room where he was interrogated
and photographed.
He was wearing a T-shirt that displayed a war chief figure, but it
wasn’t associated with street gangs.
The shirt is from Warchief Native Apparel, a clothing line that promotes
pride and unity in First Nations.
David Matthews, Chief of Fort Severn First Nation, calls the incident an
example of racial profiling.
