The Regional leader of the Chiefs of Ontario is suggesting that all 134-First Nation communities in the Province pool their funds together to ease the backlog for housing.
That recommendation was presented at a Chiefs of Ontario meeting Wednesday in Kenora and Charles Fox says other ideas were discussed aimed at
making lodging more accessible to first nation people.
The group is estimating the cost to fix the shortage at billions of dollars.
Fox adds their goal is to create over 10,000 housing units in a 10-year period.
Meanwhile, Fox is calling for improved relations between First Nations and police.
He says a number of high-profile native deaths have strained relations between aboriginal communities and law enforcement.
