Gardner-Treaty Three-Mining

Mining and exploration companies are being asked to work with area first nations, instead of blindly going ahead and
staking their claims.

That was one of the messages delivered at a mining workshop being sponsored by Grand Council Treaty #3 and
the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.

Grand Chief, Arnold Gardner says Treaty Three has already developed a Resource Law which he says lays out how they would like to deal with mining and forest companies.

N002 Q: …development. (19 secs.)

Gardner says if mining companies abide by the Resource Law, it will help avoid the type of demonstrations and blockades that have plagued communities like Big Trout Lake and those in southern Ontario.
