Health care workers in Northwestern Ontario will soon have access to geriatric psychiatry, a specialized medical practice normally available only in large centres.
Six communities, including Dryden, will be connected to the Toronto Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care via the Telehealth system.
Sandy Skirten, program coordinator in this region, says those who work with elderly patients will be able to consult with a medical specialist on a regular basis.
Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Atikokan, Kenora and Fort Frances are the other communities to benefit from the program.
