Government Announces Changes For MPAC

The provincial Government has alerted local leaders of a plan to implement 26-recommendations to improve the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.
The move will change the way MPAC does business and will allow for more transparency,
Dryden Mayor Craig Nuttall received confirmation of the review in a letter from the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
Nuttall says the announcement is a long time coming and is the result of on-going lobbying efforts by the Northern Mayors Coalition.
He stresses the current system is broken and local communities can’t afford current assessments.
The letter states the government is confident that implementing the recommendations and working with area communities will result in a fair, accurate and predictable system.
It calls for a comprehensive, independent performance evaluation of MPAC.
The action plan will include semi-annual, publicly available progress updates to ensure transparency.
