Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says his government has a concrete strategy to lower electricity rates.
The Minister responsible for Energy says the plan starts with the elimination of the Cap and Trade tax program.
Rickford expects to accomplish that goal in early Fall.
He says scrapping Cap and Trade will reduce energy rates by about 5% and he anticipates a nearly 5-cent drop in gas prices.
Rickford says there will be some more work needed to reach their target of a 12% reduction in hydro rates.
He adds they are focused on dropping the price of gasoline.
