Gun Registry Debate Heating Up

Kenora MP Greg Rickford believes most Northern NDP MP’s are on side with the Conservatives and their push to dismantle the long-gun registry.
However, Timmins-James Bay NDP Member of Parliament Charlie Angus says he’s fed up with how the Conservatives are playing politics with the issue and he’s changing his vote altogether.
Rickford says he’s still hopeful his Government has enough support to dismantle it.
NDP Leader Jack Layton is proposing changes to the Legislation, however he hasn’t yet commented on what those changes would entail.
Rickford says he’s not surprised, adding that Layton is trying to save face.
Meantime, two Alberta Cabinet Ministers are throwing their support behind a federal bill to abolish Canada’s long-gun registry.
Justice Minister Alison Redford and Solicitor General Frank Oberle say the registry doesn’t reduce gun violence and wastes taxpayers’ money.
