Hammarskjold Students Board For Vimy Ridge

The emotion, excitement and anticipation was evident at Thunder Bay airport as about 50 Hammarskjold students and teachers boarded for Vimy Ridge.

They’re on their way to Toronto, then tonight it’s off to Amsterdam, where on Sunday they’ll walk among the gravestones of soldiers who died one hundred years ago this weekend.

Tears were also shed, as some parents couldn’t hold back.

Each student researched one or two soldiers that died that day, that were from this area.

They’ll also be doing some sightseeing.

You can hear more about this trip from students and teachers by listening to Northwest Monitor Sunday afternoon at 5:30EST on Country 105 in Thunder Bay, and 9amCST on CKDR in Dryden, CFOB in Ft. Frances and CJRL in Kenora.
