Hampton Still Unclear on Future

N-D-P Leader Howard Hampton says he’ll soon decide on his political
future, but is not providing any hints as to whether he’ll step down.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP has faced persistent questions about his
leadership since the New Democrats failed to make any substantial progress
in last October’s election.
He says is talking to party members about his future and told an N-D-P
meeting in Toronto this weekend that one way or another he’ll make a
decision in the near future.
Hampton has led the party through the last three elections but the N-D-P
has been unable to recover from its disastrous showing in the 1995 vote when
it was toppled from power.
