The Northwestern Health Unit has released the results of its Youth Action on Drugs Survey.
Over 2,000 students from across the Kenora-Rainy River Districts participated in the 2010 study.
Health Promoter Saralyn Semeniuk says one major finding was that a majority of students over estimate drug use among their peers, which is concerning because research shows that youth make decisions based on what their friends do.
More then half of the students reported that there aren’t enough activities in the community they live in.
Semenuik says as a community, it’s important to dig deeper and ask questions about what youth want to see and do in the community.
One of the suggestions coming out of the report is to limit alcohol advertising.
The report provides additional information that will be helpful to community partners and groups that work with youth.
