Health Unit Posts Surplus

The Northwestern Health Unit has posted a surplus of over $16,000 for the 2004 fiscal year.
Officials say legal costs dealing with the second hand smoke court
case have cleared and they received more money from the Province.
The Health Unit has erased a debt of $6,000 and has
transferred the surplus money to reserves for such things as sick leave and
capital work.
According to an Auditor’s report, salaries and wages went up about
$400,000 in 2004 as the Health Unit expanded programs.
