High Praise For Budget From AFN

The Assembly of First Nations is fully endorsing the Liberal government’s new budget.

National Chief Perry Bellegarde says the $8.4-billion announced for aboriginal infrastructure is a step forward.

Bellegarde say the Trudeau government’s commitment to eliminate boil water advisories in all First Nations Communities is music to his ears.

He says some communities haven’t had clean drinking water for over 28-years and at at last count there were 117 communities that still had boil water advisories in place.

Bellegarde says while they didn’t get everything they wanted, he says this is just the first budget for the Liberal government and they will continue to negotiate to ensure proper funding for first nations.

He notes the budget did fall short in areas like funding for aboriginal child welfare.
