Highway Safety-Committee

One of the deadliest seasons on local highways is upon us.

Last year, the period between the Victoria Day long weekend and Labor Day claimed 14 lives on northwestern Ontario roads.

The Highway Safety Education Committee is trying to reduce the number of fatalities in the region and has distributed 120 thousand placemats to restaurants offering tips to help avoid an accident.

Sergeant Rod Brown of the O.P.P. says despite improved road conditions, summer is one of the most dangerous times of the year to be on the road.

N008 Q: …our collisions. (23 SECS.)

Brown says that not buckling up is still the single biggest reason for highway fatalities in northwestern Ontario.
