Hospital Staff Alliance Formed For New Contract

Strength in numbers.

Three of the biggest unions in Canada are uniting in an effort to secure a new contract for some 75,000 hospital workers across the province, including those in our region.

CUPE’s Ontario Council of Hospital Union, SEIU Health Care and Unifor are joining forces.

Council President Michael Hurley believes the three have the resources and the combined strength to get a negotiated settlement with no concessions.

Hurley notes individually they aren’t strong enough to reach an agreement.

He says they are looking for a deal similar to one given to hospital lab technicians.

Hurley adds several public awareness campaigns are planned for April.
