Hotel Tax Introduced In Kenora

An overnight stay in Kenora will soon cost you more.

The City is planning to impose a 4% tax on any room rented in a hotel, motel or B&B, effective September 1st.

Mayor Dave Canfield says an accommodation tax is common in many communities across the country.

Canfield says they mine as well collect to help offset the cost of tourism, economic development and brand development.

Canfield notes they already had a minor tax in place.

He calls the tax “standard”, stating it’s 5% in Manitoba.
