Howard Hampton Not Seeking Re-election

After 24-years as a member of the Ontario Legislature and more than 35-years of political involvement, Kenora-Rainy River MPP Howard Hampton has decided to do something else.
The NDP member has announced that he’s not going to seek re-election in the Kenora-Rainy River Riding this Fall.
Hampton says he thought about the decision for some time and concluded that the time is right to step aside.
The 59-year-old says the one-on-one interaction with constituents is what he will miss the most.
Hampton was first elected in 1987 and served as Cabinet Minister in the NDP Government from 1990-1995 as Attorney General and then Minister of Natural Resources.
He was elected NDP leader in 1996 and stayed on until March 2009.
Hampton says he will be actively involved with his successor when the NDP elects a new candidate.
