A 28-year-old Wisconsin man has pleaded guilty to 21 charges resulting
from hunting trips in the Ignace area over a 3-year period.
Adam Lawinger has been banned from hunting in Ontario for life and has
been handed a 6-month jail sentence for illegally hunting and killing black
bears and a Canadian lynx.
Court heard that Lawinger acted as a bear hunting guide for U.S.
hunters without a validation certificate to hunt bear legally.
The man also shot a lynx without a licence and illegally transported
it into the United States.
Court also heard in each of the 3-years, the hides and skulls of several
bears were exported and the meat was illegally abandoned and left to spoil.
Lawinger was not fined because he has already been fined $80,000 in
the United States due to a resulting investigation.
He is now serving a 2-year sentence in the States for offences
resulting from the investigation on both sides of the border.
