For the first time in franchise history, the Dryden GM Ice Dogs are back to back regular season champions.
But it wasn’t easy, as the Fort Frances Lakers did everything possible to play the role of spoiler, eventually giving way to the Ice Dogs 4-3 in a shootout.
Eric Stout scored the only goal of the shootout and also scored in regulation.
Jacen Bracko also found the back of the net, while Malcolm Huemmert tied the game to send it into overtime.
Dryden GM outshot the Lakers 47-26, with Landon Pavlisin picking up the win.
The Ice Dogs received some help before the start of the third, as Thunder Bay defeated the Thief River Falls Norskies 5-0.
A Norskies win would have gave them a chance Saturday to take back first, a spot they owned since September.
The Ice Dogs will now have home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
