A Kent Walchuk goal 4:09 into overtime was the difference as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs pulled out a 3-2 victory over visiting Thunder Bay Saturday night.
Nicholas Nigro tied the game early in the third with his second powerplay goal of the contest.
Nathan Avery and Ben Smaha scored in regulation for Dryden GM.
The Ice Dogs outshot the North Stars 35-20.
Taylor Unruh picked up the win.
Game 2 is Sunday night at 7:30 at the Dryden Memorial Arena.
Game 2 between English River and Fort Frances is also Sunday at 7:30.
