Increase In Number Of Naloxone Kit Pick-Up’s

It appears many people in the Kenora-Rainy River district are taking advantage of the free access to Naloxone.

The provincial government made the drug, used to help overcome an opioid overdose, more readily available earlier this year.

Katy Esselink is with the Northwestern Health Unit and she says they have seen a great response from the public, with an increase in numbers requesting the kits.

Esselink says one of the positive signs is that friends and family members are coming in to request Naloxone.

It is available at local Health Unit offices and select drug stores.

Esselink says they also provide overdose prevention training, in order to avoid an overdose in the first place.
