Jerry Smith

In loving memory of Jerry Smith. Jerry was born on December 1st, 1940 at Lydiatt, Manitoba; spending his younger years there on the family farm. Moving to Winnipeg in 1956, and subsequently to Dryden in 1960; where his family was raised. Jerry was employed with Union Gas for a number of years, retiring in January of 1996. In his younger he played baseball with the A&W oldtimers. Being an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Spending time with family and friends was important to him, treasuring special times with his seven grandchildren. Jerry certainly enjoyed his retirement years to the fullest. He passed away at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on February 5th, 2003. Jerry is survived by his wife Marion, children Cindy (Doug) Davie, Leslie (Rick) Bauer, Lorrie (Darren) Schmidt, and Carrie (Paul) Taylor. Also sadly missed by grandchildren Lisa and Tara Davie, Troy and Tori Bauer, Chelsea Schmidt, Megan and Allyson Taylor. Sisters Marge (Ernie) Ottenbriet of Winnipeg, Jean (Allan) Blyth of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, brother Jim (Carol) Schmidt of Winnipeg, and special sister in law Joan Smith of Dryden. His “adopted son” Mark (Tracy) Zimmerman and their two sons Jarret and Tyler also survive him. He was predeceased by his daughter Tanis Laurie Smith, parents Harry and Bertha Smith, a sister Sharon, and a brother Gordon. Visitation for the late Jerry Smith will be held at Dryden Community Funeral Home on Saturday February 8, 2003 from 11:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. Funeral Services for the late Jerry Smith will be held on Saturday February 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Home with Mr. John Mulders officiating. Interment in the Dryden Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Research through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
