A federal Conservative MP has wrapped up a tour of northwestern Ontario as part of a fact finding mission.
John Brassard says he’s been hearing a lot about upcoming gun legislation, that sets new rules for the sale and licensing of firearms.
Brassard says the governments answer to this bill is it will some how impact guns and gangs, but notes it will do nothing to solve the problem.
The southern Ontario representative calls the legislation an attack on law abiding gun owners.
Brassard took time to address the on-going trade spat between Canada and the United States.
He stresses it’s time for calmer heads to prevail and doesn’t believe a boycott will solve the problem.
Brassard says his party will stand behind the government in NAFTA negotiations.
Brassard also took time to criticize the Liberal Summer Jobs program.
He claims the program’s so called “values test” affects the services some faith based groups supply for low-income and needy people adding it’s unconstitutional and undemocratic simply because the beliefs of some differ from the federal Liberals.
