John Kooshet

It is with the greatest sadness that the Kooshet family announce the sudden passing of John. Our father, grandfather (Great), brother, uncle and friend.
John leaves to mourn; his sons and daughters; Felix and Lana of Wabigoon First Nations, Lisa (Stacey) of Dryden, Mildred of Thunder Bay and Christopher of Sault Ste. Marie. His grandchildren Phyrie, Jared, Ashley, Melissa, Cheryl, Barbara and Connie. Great grand-children Isiah, Serena, Markus and Brianna. Also sister May Pitchenese of Wabigoon First Nation, Louise Bertrand (Zenon) of Alberta and brother George Kooshet (Marlene). Numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his mother Jane Pitchenese, father Thomas Kooshet, his wife Gladys and his two sons Victor and John Paul, sister Ida Coneybear, brothers Birdie, Frankie and David Watts.
John served as chief and council member for Wabigoon First Nation, O.T.F.S., Bimose, Tree Nursery, and Wabigoon Lake community store as a board member.
John loved his children and grandchildren, great grand children, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bingos and fixing anything he could get his hands on.
A wake to be held at Wabigoon Community Gym ,Wabigoon Lake First Nation from Sunday October 13, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. till time of service.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday October 15, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with a Native Elder officiating. Interment to follow in the Wabigoon Reserve Cemetery.
John was a strong advocate for children, so in lieu of flowers please make donations to Respect the Children’s Fund through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Ave., Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
