July 1st Time To Celebrate Canada And First Nations

Labour Minister Patty Hajdu says we should be paying attention to the part Indigenous people have and continue to play in the making our country.

Hajdu says Canada Day is a time to celebrate the birth of our country as well as reflect on the history of this nation and how it relates to other nations.

Some in the Indigenous community feel recognizing July 1st festivities would be celebrating colonialism.

Hajdu believes that’s a part of our history that shouldn’t be ignored.

Protests have been held on Parliament Hill the past two days, with more expected Friday and Saturday.
