The Kenora District Services Board says it’s time that affordable and social housing becomes a federal concern.
Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall is asking the candidates in the upcoming election to commit to housing as a full partner.
Wall is calling for a national housing strategy, an increase in funding and a commitment from the Feds to stick with current operating agreements.
He says funding agreements are set to expire over the next couple of years and says an expired deal will not only impact future plans but current infrastructure.
Wall says housing is a fundamental issue affecting all Canadians and it impacts the national economy.
Wall notes municipalities are ready and willing to fund, deliver and manage locally designed strategies to address the current affordable housing, social housing and homelessness problem.
