KDSB Says Things Moving Forward On Transfer Issue

The Kenora District Services Board is hoping to put the issue of non-emergency patient transfers behind them in the next year or so.

Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall says for the first time in a long time they are finally moving forward.

Wall says they have been speaking with top hospital brass across the region and have lined-up meetings with the Northwest Local Health Integration Network.

The KDSB has been telling the province for years it can’t continue the practice as it’s taking resources away from patients who actually need urgent care and transportation.

Last year the KDSB responded to 11,789 calls, up 11.14% from 2013.

34% of the call volume were transfers and 19% were for non-emergency purposes.
