A provincial move to integrate services has forced the Kenora District Services Board to look at its homelessness program.
The Board has over $600,000 in the pot and has been given more flexibility on where the money can go.
Director of Integrated Social Services Dianne Apland says the current priorities include supporting homeless shelters, victims of violence and those having trouble paying their hydro bill.
Apland says another priority is creating a long term homelessness strategy for each community they serve.
She notes currently there’s no provincial funding attached to the 10-year plan.
Some on the Board feel the province is downloading the service onto municipalities with little financial support from both levels of senior government.
