Kenora Lawyer To File $7-Million Lawsuit

The Law Society of Upper Canada is now facing a $7-million lawsuit filed by Kenora lawyer Doug Keshen.

Keshen is claiming malicious prosecution.

The Law Society started an investigation into the way Keshen handled Residential School Survivor claims after receiving multiple complaints.

Earlier this year, the Society agreed the allegations were unfounded and instead it acknowledged there were problems with its hearing process.

Keshen claims the Law Society’s action were malicious, egregious and high handed and caused irreparable damage to his reputation.

He is seeking $5-million in special damages, $1-million in general damages, $500,000 for psychological damages and $500,000 for punitive damages.

Keshen says he’s not commenting on the suit just yet, but will do so once it is formally served.
