Kenora MP Announces Funding For Pickle Lake

Federal funding for the Township of Pickle Lake.
Minister of State for FedNor Greg Rickford announced roughly $300,000 in funding during a stop in Pickle Lake Tuesday morning.
Mayor Roy Hoffman says $242,000 will help the community replace an existing line to the local water tower, ensuring the community has access to clean and safe drinking water.
Hoffman says the water tower has been leaking for roughly three years.
He notes the repairs will ensure the community has access to clean and safe drinking water.
Work on the project is expected to begin Wednesday.
Rickford also announced roughly $25,000 to help Pickle Lake increase its bandwidth service to 100-megabytes per second.
Rickford says the work will result in faster, more secure and reliable broadband services.
The community is now hooked up to the fibre optic network and they can now get live streaming and on-line broadcasts.
Roy Hoffman notes the upgrades are essential as the community continues to grow.
The government is also providing money to support seniors programs in Pickle Lake.
Hoffman notes they will be setting up computers and providing more activities for both seniors and youth.
Hoffman says they have a great working relationship with the Federal Government and notes these projects probably wouldn’t proceed without the funding.
