Local OPP Officer Honoured By MADD Canada

A big honour for a local member of the Provincial Police in Dryden.

Constable Michelle Teeple has received a MADD 2018 Excellence Award for her work with the Dryden/Ignace Area Impaired Driving Reduction Strategy.

Teeple feels that impaired driving rates have decreased in the area, but unfortunately many young people are still not receiving the message.

She says the honour is a complete team effort and she credits a number of community partners and individuals.

Teeple thanks Petrina Taylor-Hertz in Ignace for taking time and organizing awareness initiatives.

Teeple and her team have been instrumental in hosting a mock exercise at Dryden High School involving community members as well as bringing in the regional Coroner to give a sobering look a the dangers of drinking and driving.

She says their goal is to use interactive and up-to-date technology to engage youth.

Teeple stresses talking to your children early about the dangers of impaired driving is a great first step to help prevent it.
