The Dryden Trillium Lions has issued a plastic bag pick-up challenge.
Kathy Doherty was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Friday and says the organization is challenging schools and the community to collect the bags to make Dryden more environmentally friendly.
“Everybody in town can get on board with this and give us a call and we will collect it. And if you want to put a name of a school on your bag of bags we can count it towards their final count.”
The winning school will be recognized at the end of the campaign.
It runs until January 15.
Doherty says the timing is perfect as the federal government announcement Wednesday a 2021 ban on single-use plastics.
“To get used to not using plastic bags. Maybe asking your grocery stores to give you a brown paper sack instead. Which holds a lot more than a plastic bag and you can actually reuse. And keep away from those plastic water bottles.”
Doherty says the City is enthusiastic with the initiative as they don’t want to see the bags in the dump.
To arrange a plastic bag pick-up call Kathy at 216-9944, Deanna at 223-3275 or Susan at 223-2294 or any Trillium Lions Club member.
