Progress is being made on the Homeward Bound program in Dryden.
The intent is to provide single Indigenous mothers with child care and education, which will eventually lead to self-sustaining employment.
Speaking to the Dryden Rotary Club Wednesday, Spokesperson Sally Ledger says all of the participants are doing well and they’ve been able to form some strong partnerships.
Ledger notes they didn’t get as many participants as they wanted in their first intake, so they are still recruiting.
She says they will start a second intake in September or October.
The next steps of the project include finding a manager as well as help form an Industry Council.
Ledger says they are trying to partner with the private sector to mentor single, Indigenous mothers.
She adds the goal is to have those individuals work in the industry.
