On a campaign swing of Northwestern Ontario this week, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, says the province needs to find a way to get doctors out of the larger cities and into smaller communities.
Flaherty is one of five candidates seeking the provincial tory leadership next month.
He says a new northern medical school is a good start to help solve the doctor shortage in the region.
Flaherty adds allowing more foreign-trained doctors to practice, creating more spaces in existing medical schools and hiring more nurse practitioners should also help relieve shortages.
