The Town of Atikokan is starting another phase of its mineral development initiative.
The Town is surveying almost 12-thousand kilometers of land from Atikokan east to Crooked Pine Lake, the Lumby Lake greenstone belt and south to Quetico Park.
Garry Clark is with the Ontario Prospectors Association and he hopes the results will spur more prospectors to explore for more gold.
Clark says the detailed magnetic survey will start after Christmas and will conclude early next year.
The study will integrate new and old data and Clark says the goal is to attract exploration companies to invest in the region.
The Ontario Geological Survey, Prospectors Association, Ontario Heritage Fund, FedNor and the Town of Atikokan are funding the project.
