It’s been 50 years of science at the Experimental Lakes Area, west of Vermilion Bay.
To celebrate the milestone, Dr. Michael Paterson, Gail Asper and family have agreed to match donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to a million dollars towards the facility
Paterson has been working with the ELA since 1992 and he says the endowment fund will help in the upkeep of the world famous research centre and key staff salaries.
Paterson says he’s seen first-hand the difference the ELA has made on scientific and fresh water research.
He stresses the facility is absolutely unique and there’s no other place on the planet like it.
Experiments at the research centre this year focused on oil spills and the effect cleanup efforts have on marine life.
He says it’s important that the ELA receive funding to keep the data flowing.
“This is for the security of @IISD_ELA and the future of fresh water…” Many thanks to Mike Paterson, Gail Asper & family for matching YOUR donations. Please consider donating to our endowment fund, safe in the knowledge that your gift will be doubled… https://t.co/6zffC38dWS pic.twitter.com/PsFCWQVfId
