Post-secondary students in Thunder Bay will have better access to mental health supports thanks to $972,770 in provincial funding
The money will be distributed over the next three-years.
With this help, Confederation College, in partnership with Cambrian College, Canadore College and Northern College, will work together to detect mental health issues in students sooner.
Together they will design a “northern relevant” website for students, staff and mental health practitioners.
In addition, they will use communication technology to improve access to counseling and student services, develop programs to promote awareness of mental health issues and create a sustainable peer support network.
All students in Thunder Bay will have 24/7 access to a province-wide helpline.
This initiative is part of the 12.3-million dollars the province is investing in post-secondary schools all over Ontario and the 27-million committed to mental health services for college and university students.
